The Secretary General of Women Wing calls for a transparent investigation and a comprehensive system to protect vulnerable segments of society.

The Secretary General of Women Wing, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Dr. Humaira Tariq, while expressing deep sorrow, grief, and concern over the tragic incident involving a minor domestic worker in Lahore, said that this tragedy is not merely the suffering of one child or one family, but a challenge to the collective conscience of society and a painful proof of the failure of the state’s protection system.

She stated that according to media reports, the victim girl had allegedly reported sexual abuse, and in her statement given before her death, she had also made serious allegations. The inclusion of murder charges by the police in the case reflects the gravity of the matter. It is essential that the investigation is conducted with complete transparency, impartiality, and in accordance with legal requirements so that the facts come to light and those involved in this crime are given exemplary punishment.

Dr. Humaira Tariq said that domestic workers, especially women and minor girls, are among those segments of society who are often victims of exploitation, violence, harassment, and sexual crimes, while there is a lack of effective monitoring and complaint mechanisms for their protection. This situation is extremely alarming and demands that both the state and society seriously fulfill their responsibilities.

She said that this incident raises several important questions. Are the lives, dignity, and rights of domestic workers being ensured? Are the laws in place for preventing crimes against women and children being effectively implemented? And is the justice system applying equal standards for both the weak and the powerful? State institutions must answer these questions through practical measures.

Dr. Humaira Tariq stated that the identity of a civilized and just society lies in providing full protection and justice to its weakest individuals. Claims of human dignity, respect for women, protection of children, and rule of law are proven not through statements but through effective policymaking and practical actions.

She urged the Government of Pakistan, especially the Government of Punjab, to bring this case to its logical conclusion and, making it an example, take comprehensive and effective measures for the protection of the rights of domestic workers, especially women and minor girls.

Dr. Humaira Tariq emphasized that the time has come to give practical shape to comprehensive legislation regarding the protection of domestic workers and to ensure strict implementation of existing laws. Until the law reaches every powerful offender equally and vulnerable groups are effectively protected, such tragic incidents cannot be prevented. Government institutions, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary must work together to ensure that no woman, child, or domestic worker in Pakistan is subjected to oppression, exploitation, or violence.

Meanwhile, Deputy Secretaries Atiya Nisar, Dr. Sameeha Raheel Qazi, Iffat Sajjad, Dr. Zubaida Jabbar, Ayesha Sayed, along with Deputy Secretary and Director Media Cell Samina Saeed, also expressed deep concern and sorrow over the incident of violence against the domestic worker.
